Raleigh In-Home Family Photos
More Raleigh in-home family photos? You know I’m here for it! Truth be told, this family session was originally scheduled to be an outdoor session. Casey watched, though, as I shared more and more in-home sessions, and she started to change her mind.
The fear of in-home family photos
She reached out to me to let me know she was thinking about switching their family photos to be in their home, but she had some reservations. Since it was a session to commemorate her daughter’s first birthday, she wanted there to be more of a focus on her. So what did we do? We carved out time to photograph Addison in her nursery and for a cake smash.
Casey was also hesitant because in her words, their house had “a lot going on”. So, we jumped on a Facetime call so that I could assess the space. It was clear to me almost immediately that we could make it work.
We talked through which rooms would make the most sense to use after she gave me a FaceTime tour of their space, and we planned accordingly. Because believe it or not, we really only focus on a couple of spaces in your home for in-home family photos – not the entire house!
Prepping for family photos in your home
As their session date drew closer and I learned more about their family, we landed on incorporating pizza making into their session. It’s something that they do regularly as a family, so it made complete sense to document it and give them photos to remember it by once these days have passed.
And as it turns out, seeing one-year-old Addison’s little toes and legs sprinkled with flour was one of my favorite parts of this session. There’s something about simple images like this that tell such a sweet story both now and years down the road.
All of this to say, I’m thrilled we ended up inside the Sink’s home for this session rather than a random field. There’s just a special kind of photo magic that can be created inside of your home!
