The best place to photograph a family? AT HOME! It’s only my opinion, but doing a photo session at home also never seems to fail.
Kids are usually most comfortable in their own environment, so that’s a win. And on top of that, your home is the place you live. Y’all are saying, “DUH MORGAN”, but hear me out.
I’m sure you take tons of snapshots on your phone of your kids at home, so there’s documentation of you all living there. But is there beautiful documentation of it? Do you have photos that truly communicate what your home means to you? Do you have photos that show the story of family that happens in that special place?
Maybe a couple here and there, but it’s unlikely that you have framers, right?
So the next time you’re scheduling family photos, consider your home. They don’t even have to be inside your home if you feel it’s not “photo ready”, but use your yard, your front porch and the spaces you hang out.
For the Reffett’s session, we did just that. We did their photo session at home and utilized their yard, front porch and a swing that the kids love.
It gave the kids a chance to take a break inside when they needed to and run around freely in their own space. See how everyone wins here?!
Before moving to Raleigh, this sweet family lived across the street from us. So going to their home was kind of surreal. I used to see the front of their house every single day, but that obviously hasn’t happened since we now live in North Carolina.
It was nice to not only visit the street I used to live on, but also the neighbors I used to see so frequently. And capturing their joy and connection was just the cherry on top!
Matt and Sarah, thank you so much for choosing me to capture your family again!
