Seeing a positive on your pregnancy test always comes as a surprise – even when you’re expecting it. It’s even more shocking when you don’t see it coming though!
Katie was nearly halfway through her pregnancy when she found out she was pregnant. And even though she didn’t know she was expecting, those first few months were super eventful!
After getting married in Bali, traveling through Asia and Australia for two months and buying a house, Katie and Weston found out they had unknowingly done all of these things with their first child. Katie even endured a broken arm during all of this!
Suffice it to say it was a pretty big surprise when they found out they were pregnant – but it was a welcome and exciting one that they fully embraced and were thankful for.
Just a few days shy of the 40 week mark, Katie’s water broke and she and Weston knew it was go time. One of my favorite parts of their birth story, though, is that they stopped at Chick-fil-A on their way to the hospital! Since she knew she wouldn’t be able to eat during labor, that pit stop was a must!
Katie said that since she only knew she was pregnant for about half of the time that most people do, she was still processing what was happening up until the point Luka was born. I had never thought about it before, but that had to be so true! I can’t imagine only having a few months to mentally prepare myself for becoming a parent.
Once she held Luka is her arms, though, the happy tears flowed freely. There is truly no experience like holding your child in your arms for the first time, and as Katie said, it was one of the most amazing moments of her life.
At six days old, Luka had his newborn photo session debut, and he totally rocked it. He slept so peacefully nearly the entire time as I documented his perfect newborn self and baseball-themed nursery.
Only near the end of his session did he open his little eyes for us! One of the things I love most about lifestyle sessions, though, is that it’s totally fine if your baby is awake. Getting some photos of him with him more alert was the perfect way to end his session.
Weston and Katie, thank you so much for trusting me to document this season of life for you! I loved spending time with you and meeting Luka. Congrats to you! You’re going to make the best parents for your son!
