Believe it or not, there are several benefits to doing an in-home family photo session. I know you always opt for that park down the street or the field of tall grass with the gorgeous sunset light. And there’s nothing wrong with that!

But have you ever considered simply not leaving your home for your next family photo session? If you haven’t, here are a few reasons why you should.

Five Benefits of an In-Home Family Session

  1. You don’t have to leave your house!

I mean, you probably knew that already, but let’s talk about how huge of a perk this is. One of the stressors most families experience when it comes to family photos is getting everyone ready, out the door, into the car and to their photo destination on time. When your family photographer comes to you, though, you eliminate this stressor!
  2. You set the stage for comfort and connection.

If I had to guess, I’d say that your home is where you feel most comfortable. This the place where everyone feels free to be their truest, most authentic selves. If there ever was a place for honesty to pour over during a photo session, your home is that place. And if you want that feeling to seep through into your family photos, opting for an in-home session is your best chance at making it happen.
  3. The kids can take breaks!

Listen, I know toddlers have no interest in following instructions for the duration of a photo session. In fact, doing so may produce a result that you don’t necessarily want documented memories of. The beautiful thing about in-home family photos is that your kids can take a 10 minute break and play if they need to. Let them do what they need to do in the playroom while we focus on the rest of the family for a few minutes. They’ll come back more refreshed and ready for the rest of the session!
  4. Your family is confined.

Does this sound weird? Probably… but hear me out. I’ve seen curious kids in a new-to-them field for family photos, and I’ve seen curious kids inside their own homes for family photos. I’ll take the latter every single time. Toddlers, especially, typically want to run wild in a new outdoor setting. There’s so much to see, after all! How can you blame them? Put them inside their own home, though, and you’ll experience far fewer episodes of “chase down and wrangle the toddler for a photo”. I promise.
  5. Your home is a really special place.

Whether you live in your current home for two years or fifty years, it’s going to hold a place in your heart that no random park or field ever will. You’ll treasure the memories and moments that will unfold inside these walls. This is why we have the emotional attachment that we do to the homes that we live in. So what better place to document the love that you have for your family than the most special place in your life right now?

I know most people have their hesitations about having family photos inside their home, but I promise you you’ll never regret it. Take a look at these sessions to see what I mean, and then let’s chat about the magical images we can make with your family inside your own home.
