This Youngsville newborn photo session had one of the most well-decorated nurseries I’ve ever had the pleasure of photographing in! The navy board and batten wall behind the crib set the tone for the whole room. And the way the light flooded in from the window made it absolutely perfect for their newborn photo session.
Needless to say, we spent the majority of our time in the nursery. I can never pass up a good staircase, though, and Tyler and Emily’s happened to be in an open area with good light. Not to mention their session fell in December, so the garland popped into a few shots too!
Personally, I love all of the different creative angles and possibilities that a staircase provides for photos. You can photograph from above, straight on and through the railing. You can incorporate movement, sitting and standing. If you can’t tell, I’m always game for a good staircase.
Another thing I loved about their session was their perfect wardrobe choices. You can never – and I do mean never – go wrong with neutrals! They’re simple, classic and they always photograph well.
Emily’s dress offered up good texture, and Tyler’s henley complemented in perfectly. When in doubt, put your husband in a henley or a button down. Those are always my suggestions.
Whatever you do, though, avoid the polos. I know they seem like a logical choice, but they don’t photograph as well as you might think. I would actually recommend a solid colored t-shirt over a polo any day of the week.
And when you’re really in doubt, ask your photographer! They’re the expert, and they’ll be able to give you the best advice on what will photograph well taking their style into account!
