A smash cake family session is officially my favorite way to do a smash cake for a baby turning one. With this session scheduled right around Diana’s first birthday, adding in a smash cake at the end made perfect sense.
Many times people ask for recommendations for photographers for smash cake sessions for their one-year-old. And while I am more than happy to work it into a family session, I don’t offer a stand alone cake smash session.
My photo style is about family. And even though I think your little one should be celebrated, I think that you should be celebrated too. So if you’re working with me, you’re getting in the photos too! And then we’ll get baby all messy at the end with the cake!
I love color for photos, but I also love a neutral wardrobe for a family session too – especially when it’s done this well. This beautiful family pulled off wearing similar colors without looking matchy matchy, and I’m obsessed.
April and I had texted back and forth about wardrobe choices a month or two before their session, so I knew they were going to be looking fabulous! And the way these colors pop against the green grass and trees worked out so beautifully.
I also may be a little partial to this session because these are friends of ours. Matt and my husband were in the same fraternity in college when they went to Purdue. Matt ended up landing a job here, and the whole Puskar family moved down to Raleigh from Chicago in late 2019.
Getting to know them over the past year or so has been so much fun, so I was so excited to have them in front of my lens! Photographing friends’ families is one of my favorite things to do. Already knowing their personalities is always helpful, and the comfortability level for everyone is always so much higher.
So thank you to this incredible family for trusting me with your photos! It was an honor to document this season for you!
