Moving from Southern California to Raleigh

Shortly before being induced, Casey reached out to me to officially book her newborn session. And I am so happy that she made the decision to, even if it was last minute!

She, her husband and her daughter moved to Raleigh last year from Southern California. If you know me, you know that I adore SoCal. I mean, I love living in Raleigh, but I wouldn’t hate living in San Diego either.

I honestly can’t imagine what the transition is like living anywhere else after you’ve lived in such an idyllic place, but this sweet family seems to be handling it so well.

Raleigh Newborn Photo Session

Precious newborn baby Kyrie was three weeks old when we did his photo session, and he has a big sister, Gracelyn, who was just a few days shy of turning five!

I love seeing the way siblings take to the newborn in the family. Gracelyn was obviously excited and couldn’t wait to get a picture while holding Ky. As any parent knows, the adoration doesn’t last forever, but it is so sweet and endearing when it happens!

Transitioning from one to two kids

I spoke with Casey on the phone a few days before her family’s Raleigh newborn session, and we talked about the transition from one child to two.

I’ve realized that it’s different for everyone. Personally, I thought going from zero kids to one was way harder than going from one to two. But many moms will tell you the exact opposite.

So much of it depends on your unique experience each time as well as your children’s personalities.

This isn’t to say that we didn’t go through some trying phases with Beckett after Callahan was born, because we did. But I didn’t find the whole thing quite as jarring as I did the first time around.

The good news is that either way, you figure it out. You adjust to your new normal. And even though it’s challenging sometimes, you know you wouldn’t have it any other way.
