As a Raleigh film newborn photographer, the light and colors in these photos bring me so much joy!
Sometimes blogging gets put on the back burner, but it’s time for sweet baby Knox to make his debut on the blog today.
I first met Andrew and Nicole for their maternity session before Knox was born. It was there that Nicole and I discovered that we both shared Indiana roots! I had texted her before their session and noticed a familiar area code. And sure enough, she’s from Indiana just like yours truly! It truly is a small world.
Fast forward to Knox’s newborn session at their home in Zebulon, and these two were some of the most laid back first-time parents I’ve had the pleasure of working with.
We photographed about 80 percent of their newborn session in the dining area of their kitchen. Is that unconventional? Yes. But it’s also where the best light in their home was!
We captured a few images in Knox’s nursery since it’s such a special room in the home. I was thrilled, though, that Andrew and Nicole were totally open to using an unconventional space for the vast majority of their newborn photos.
I know that many times we have ideas in our head about photos in particular rooms of our homes. The truth is, though, that the light we use in your images will make a much bigger impact on the end result of your photos rather than the room that you’re in.
This is especially true when you’re working with a film photographer, because there’s no hiding imperfect conditions when you’re shooting film!
I also shot digital images at this session, but all of the photos in this post are Portra 400 film images processed by PhotoVision.
