A month or so before Caroline was born (and their newborn session was approaching), her mom, Bobbie Jean, called me in a panic.
Their home was undergoing major renovations, and even though all of the loose ends were supposed to be tied up by the time Caroline arrived, that wasn’t turning out to be the case.
She was so worried that we wouldn’t be able to fulfill her dreams of an in-home newborn session.
As a parent under a lot of stress, I understood where she was coming from. As a photographer who’s dealt with all kinds of in-home photography circumstances, I knew we’d be just fine.
I laid out all of our possible scenarios and options for her, and we decided to keep her date on the calendar and adjust if need be once the time came.
As you’ll see, you’d actually never know that they were still undergoing home renovations literally as we were shooting this session. That, my friends, is the beauty of a little camera magic and a lot of experience.
I consider all parents to be brave. I consider some of the bravest parents to be those who have two children under the age of two. I have a hard enough time keeping my you-know-what together with two boys two years and four months apart. So I can truly only imagine.
Wouldn’t you know that Caroline has an older brother who’s only 17 months older than her?
I think we all owe their parents a big round of applause (and maybe a case of wine?), because not only are they keeping them both alive, they’re thriving.
While this time is chaotic, I’m sure, it’ll also be a beautiful one to look back on. And I, for one, and thankful that I was able to capture it for them so that they can do just that.
