These Historic Oak View spring family photos turned out to be one of my favorite sessions with this family! This was our fourth time working together, and I feel like I say that every time I work with them. But this is just how it goes with some families, and I’m not mad about it!
Historic Oak View is my favorite place for outdoor photos in Raleigh, especially in Spring! So I was ecstatic when Brian and Heather chose it for their spring family photos this year.
Their daughter was 13 months old when we did their first family session back in 2020. It’s been such a joy and an honor to document her as she grows over the past year and a half.
Brian and Heather were slightly concerned that her toddler behavior would result in minimal usable photos, but I felt confident the whole time that that wouldn’t be the case!
I know family photos with kids, especially toddlers, can feel overwhelming. I have good news, though! I expect your kids to listen to maybe half of what I say, and I expect them to go totally rogue the remainder of the time.
In fact, I depend on them to go rogue. My photography style is natural, candid and very much child-led. If your daughter wants to run around and pick flowers, I’ll make magic out of it. If your son will only sit still for a millisecond, I’ll make magic out of it.
Do not worry about your kids’ behavior during your photo session with me! I have four boys ages six and under. Suffice it to say there are few things that surprise me during family photos!
The only thing I expect from you as parents are pleasant facial expressions. Because while I can make magic out of erratic toddler behavior, it’s much harder to make magic out of a scowl on your face you’ve made in response to your child not listening. 😉
