Ashleigh found me on Google after searching “candid Raleigh family photographer”, and she just so happens to be a fellow boy mom with a set of twins herself! What are the odds?! They’re really low, in case you were wondering.
I was so excited when her inquiry came through and she expressed her desire for a photographer who could work with lots of moving kids and photograph multiple babies. Ummm… hi! You’ve found your girl! I photograph multiples everyday of my life at home!
As their in-home session approached, I became even more excited to photograph them. Ashleigh had plans for making cookies and baking with her oldest son, and I just love when we get to work fun activities like this into a photo session!
She said they bake together a lot, so I was jazzed that it was true to life and a photogenic activity.
As I prepped for their session, I actually became a little emotional. Even though I have one more child within my family unit, I still have a deep understanding of what it means to be a mom to twins plus additional children.
It’s simultaneously exhausting and fulfilling. It brings you to the end of yourself most days – physically, mentally emotionally. It’s a lot.
And yet, we know at our core that we wouldn’t have it any other way.
So I wanted to be sure that I captured that dichotomy for Ashleigh. I wanted to show her as the heartbeat of her family. Because as a mom, that’s what you are – even on the days that you feel like you have nothing else to give. You keep the proverbial ship afloat with the love that you pour out to your people.
And I hope that when she looks back on these photos for years to come, she can see that in herself.
