Relaxed in-home family photos are something I’m always game for! Why? Because last time I checked, we’re not all fluttering around our homes in maxi dresses. And we’re also not dressing our children in the frilliest of clothes so that they can spill fruit juice and finger paints all over them. Amiright?
So I really think when you’re in your home, you can chill with your wardrobe and the whole vibe if it’s more true to you. Would I suggest you wear yoga pants? No. But there’s a happy medium we can achieve between yoga pants and a maxi dress.
This family struck the balance just perfectly in my opinion. We planned to build a fort in the playroom, so Ashleigh knew their outfits had to be conducive to that activity. We discussed her wearing overalls but landed on this cute jumper instead! (I’m DYING for a mama to wear overalls for a Legacy Session btw!)
Ashleigh knew that realistically she wouldn’t ever be playing in a fort in denim in real life. I love that she was so aware of that and pivoted to wear something that she actually would wear for fort building!
Speaking of fort building, the moment Ashleigh mentioned that her boy love building forts in her questionnaire, I knew it was something we had to incorporate into their session.
They typically use their Nugget, and I suggested we throw in a white sheet to bring in the old school fort vibe as well. It gave the kids something to do and kept the one-year-old toddler twins engaged. This, in and of itself, is a task. And I can say this because I have twins, and I know. 😉
If you keep up on these blog posts, you may recognize this family from their family session back in December. We did their last session in their home as well, and I love that you can see how the twins (and Parker!) have grown in the same exact space. It’s so special!
