Historic Oak View Maternity Session

This Historic Oak View maternity session just so happened to land on a beautiful January day! Temperatures in the mid 50’s and sunshine aren’t totally out of the norm for a Raleigh winter, but you can’t bank on it happening either. Suffice it to say we were all pleased with how Mother Nature cooperated.

Holden and Mayci have been together nearly ten years. He was 16 and she was 19 when they started dating, so they’ve truly watched each other grow up. And now they get to embark on another chapter of life together.  I’m sure their history together will only make it more special!

The importance of maternity photos

Since really taking the dive into newborn and family photography, I’ve noticed that many expecting parents don’t opt for maternity photos. In some respects, I get it. Especially as a first time mom, I don’t know that you can fully appreciate how special this time in your life is until it’s over.

I mean, I even made the mistake of not having maternity photos done when Justin and I were expecting our first child. Afterwards, though, I seriously regretted it. And in true regretful photographer form, I already have a maternity session scheduled for early summer before the twins are due.

Whether it’s your first child or your fifth, your life will never be exactly as it is ever again. Much like with newborn photos, you get such a small window of time to document the season of life in which you’re growing your child inside of your body.

I know that sometimes we don’t feel the prettiest or most glamorous when we’re pregnant, but you will never regret having documentation of this season of life. You’ll look back in awe of yourself, and the baby you’re carrying will be so incredibly thankful to have those photos years from now.

So even if you think it’s excessive and unnecessary right now or you simply don’t feel as beautiful as you truly are, take the leap and do it. You and your baby will be so happy you did.
