I titled this post Raleigh Natural Family Photographer, because that’s the type of photography I provide. I don’t do stiff. I don’t do perfect. I don’t do uber posed. I do natural.
One of the things I’ve learned in my ten plus years in the photography industry is that your personal experiences inform how you document moments for other people. And so, when I photograph a family, I do so in a way that expresses what family is to me.
Family is comfortable to me. It’s the place you can be your truest self. It’s crazy, chaotic, loving and joyful all wrapped up into one. Family is the place you can fall and know you’ll be caught. It’s where unconditional love is found. It’s a lot of things. But for me, above all, it’s really really comfortable.
So when I photograph a family, that’s one of the main things I aim to communicate.
Perfectly posed photographs with everyone looking at the camera have their place (and I always capture one for Grandma, don’t worry 😉), but my goal is always to give you photos that show that comfort.
My goal is for you to have photos that will allow you to feel that comfort and connection long past the days your little ones will fit inside your arms.
Of all of the good things I identify family with, I don’t equate it with perfection. We all have our flaws. We all mess up. Spats will be had and frustration will be felt. And perhaps this is why I don’t strive to capture a gallery full of aesthetically “perfect” photos.
But at the end of the day these people are your people, and you’ll always come back and find that comfort there. You’ll always find the love, the joy. You’ll always always always have fun with these people.
And I hope when you see your photos you feel that – now and forever.
