Baby Ben was born in late November, so naturally the Spence’s home had Christmas decor up when we shot it in early December. An in-home newborn session with Christmas decor seems to be something most people are undecided on.
Do we want to see the tree? Do we not? Do we want to pretend it’s a different month of the year? WHAT do we do?!
First world problems, I know. Here’s my take on it though: do a little of both!
As a mama of a December baby myself, I love having a mix of photos that show no Christmas decor and photos that do from his newborn session. It was December after all, so that’s pretty true to life in my opinion.
Some of my favorite photos from this session are in front of the window in Ben’s nursery. You can see the wreath hanging on the outside of the window, but other than that, there are no signs of Christmas. It offers this perfect hint of festiveness that I just love.
Nothing overwhelmingly Christmasy about it; nothing that would inhibit you from hanging the photos in your home year round, but just a small dose of it to let you know it is, in fact, December.
One of the other things I loved about this session was the board and batten wall in Ben’s nursery! Fun fact: after I shared my twins’ board and batten wall on Instagram in their nursery, Nikki reached out to see who did it. Long story short, she ended up hiring Kris with Precision Quality Renovations to do her baby’s nursery as well!
As a side note, 10/10 would recommend adding a fun element like board and batten to your nursery. It totally transforms the room and adds such great texture! I love it in my twins’ nursery and in every nursery I photograph that has it!
