Hi I’m Morgan! I’m a photography educator and Raleigh, NC newborn photographer and family photographer.

Meet Morgan

Reading Time: 2 minutes

Let’s start off with a truth bomb: YOU ARE NOT ENOUGH. I know you’ve been told you are over and over again, but the truth is…you’re not.

Doing it ALL on your own with zero help is 👏 not 👏 sustainable 👏. Outsourcing as a momtog is an absolute must if you want to see success in all areas of your life.

Think of the mom who works a 9-5 job. How would she be able to do her job well if she was also supposed to take care of her kids while leading a meeting or contributing to a project? How could she possibly reach her full potential under those circumstances?

NEWSFLASH – she wouldn’t!

And yet, those of us who are moms and photographers tell ourselves it’s fine. We’ve chosen a path with more flexibility. So we’ll watch the kids 24/7, make sure the house is clean, cook dinner, do the laundry, get the groceries… and we’ll KILL it in our businesses.

But sister. You are NOT enough. You can not do all of these things and do them all well. I would know. I’ve tried.

Ideas for Outsourcing

Want to know how to kill it in your business? Enlist help.

Find childcare. Maybe it’s a babysitter, preschool or mother’s morning out program. Maybe you swap days with a friend in a similar situation. But give yourself dedicated time to pour into your business and your clients.

Hire a housekeeper. Get takeout. Have your groceries delivered.

There are a million and one ways to make this easier on yourself, but you have to want to make it easier.

Let’s talk about the money

I know these things cost money too, but YOU’RE WORKING! And if you’re bringing in money, a portion of it should be allocated to freeing up some of your time so you can actually work without taking a break.

Back when I shot weddings, I finally loosened the reins and started outsourcing on editing. I would spend a few hundred dollars per wedding to have someone else edit them and get them back to me in a week’s time!

You may be thinking that you don’t want to give up a few hundred dollars per wedding, but stop for a moment and think of it this way instead. I was able to get back 5-10 hours for every wedding that I shot. Don’t you think in 5-10 hours time I was able to make that money back and more? Yes! ABSOLUTELY! To be honest, I was able to easily triple my investment with the time I got back.

The same thing can be said for nearly any other form of outsourcing. TIME IS MONEY, and the sooner you learn that, own it and live it, the quicker you’re going to build a profitable business that fits into your life beautifully.

And the cherry on top? You’ll be a better photographer AND a better mom when you free yourself up a little bit.

So yes, do it for the sake of your business and for yourself. But also, do it for your kids and your family. Everyone will be better off for it.
