My Favorite Podcasts for Creative Entrepreneurs

Less than a year ago, I was working full time corporate America style while also running my photography business. I spent a long time knowing where I wanted to be but not knowing how to get there.

“The dream” seems so far off when you’re living the 9-5 cubicle life, and it often feels like you’re never going to have the time to achieve it. You work 40 hours a week after all, right?

Believe me. I went through MANY phases of feeling overwhelmed and thinking it was impossible. My camera would collect dust on a shelf for six months at a time, because I simply didn’t think it was realistic.

I was wrong. And if this is your mindset, I’m here to tell you that you’re wrong too. I love you, but you’re wrong.

That being said, there are ways to educate yourself efficiently. You do have a limited amount of time. I get that. You likely can’t dedicate eight interrupted hours to educating yourself every week.

So what’s my solution? PODCASTS. I may not be living in corporate America anymore, but I’m still a busy mom who loves the convenience of podcasts. You can listen to them while you’re working out, driving, taking public transportation, doing laundry or even doing a mindless task at work (don’t tell your boss I told you that). You can listen to them while you’re doing the other things in life that you would be doing anyways. SCORE!

The Goal Digger Podcast: I adore Jenna Kutcher. She’s an incredible businesswoman who still manages to stay super down to earth and approachable while killing it in her business. This podcast is a mix of solo shows with Jenna covering various topics, interviews with other girl bosses and even coaching calls she hosts with entrepreneurs seeking out her expertise.

The Creative Empire Podcast: Reina Pomeroy and Christina Scalera started this podcast last spring/summer, and I quickly became obsessed. Reina and Christina interview a wide range of creatives on topics ranging from intentionality to financial responsibility in your business to branding to social media. In short, they cover it all.

Being Boss: This podcast is a little more in your face than the previous two, but I promise it’s in a good way. Emily Thompson and Kathleen Shannon have created a loyal community around their podcast, and they promote being who you are in your business and in your life.

The Boss Mom Podcast: What I love about this podcast is that Dana Malstaff brings in guests from outside of the creative bubble that we sometimes live in. Gaining that perspective can be so valuable! And even though the word “mom” is in the title, it’s for moms and non-moms alike.
If you haven’t jumped on the podcast wagon yet, this is your sign! There’s an incredible amount of free information out there just waiting for you to soak up. And you can do it all from the convenience of your headphones and phone – no computer required.

So get to learning, and start that path from your cubicle life to your dream life. It’s not as far away as you think it is!
