Raleigh Family of Five Newborn Session

This Raleigh family of five newborn session was so much fun! One of my favorite things about a newborn session with older siblings is the dichotomy between the peacefulness of a new baby and the energy that older siblings bring. It really brings to light how quickly they outgrow that sleepy newborn stage and evolve into fun children!

Staying Team Green

I interact with a lot of expecting parents in this newborn photography profession, and the vast majority of people choose to find out the gender of their baby while they’re pregnant. Not this family, though! They stayed team green waiting for the arrival of their third baby!

We chose not to find out with our first two boys. We were planning to find out with our last pregnancy, and once we found out there were two babies instead of one… well, we definitely needed to find out then!

But I 100 percent understand the joy and anticipation of not finding out. There is truly no surprise in the world like that one. I know many people feel the need to plan out every gender-dependent detail before baby arrives, but the truth is this – it really doesn’t matter once they’re here!

It won’t matter if their nursery is pink, purple, green, blue, yellow, gray or orange. It won’t matter if they have 25 different little outfits to wear in those first few weeks or if you have white swaddles, floral swaddles or swaddles with dinosaurs on them.

Your love for your baby will be the same, and you’ll quickly realize that all of those things that you thought were so important truly are not. You’ll experience the same joy, hardships, challenges and love regardless of whether you knew baby’s gender ahead of time. I can tell you from experience that a gender specific nursery doesn’t make anything about having a newborn any easier. 🙂

Two Boys and a Girl

After two boys, this family of five had a girl with their third!

Baby Clara’s brothers greeted me at the door upon my arrival at their home and they kept me on my toes the whole time – but if you know me, you know that’s what I prefer anyway. Give me all the unpredictability from the kiddos, because that’s what makes for the best photos. 😉

Suffice it to say, once she outgrows this sleep newborn stage, she’s going to have two very busy brothers to keep up with!
