Carl and Gretl are two people who are undoubtedly meant to be together. You only have to spend a few minutes around them to see that and to feel their connection.
From the moment I met the two of them last fall for their engagement session, I had been looking forward to their wedding day. They are just so enjoyable to be around, and they interact with one another in the most adorable ways. Suffice it to say I was thrilled to be kicking off my 2018 wedding season with them.
The entire wedding party got ready for the day at Evansville Country Club. Carl and his groomsmen took over the men’s locker room while Gretl and her bridesmaids beautified themselves across the hall in the women’s locker room. Allyson Evans from Shannon Aleksandr’s Salon and Spa came in to prep the ladies’ hair, and everyone single one of them looked absolutely gorgeous!
After Gretl stepped into her Stella York bridal gown from The Wedding Studio with the help of her mom and maids/matron of honor, the ladies all joined hands and stood in a circle as one of her sisters prayed over her. It was such a special and heartfelt moment and the perfect way to send Gretl out for her first look with her soon-to-be husband.
Carl was so excited to see Gretl, and the feelings on Gretl’s end were the same. It was the moment of their wedding day that they were most looking forward to. Gretl approached him, placed her hand around his waist to signal to him to turn around, and Carl just beamed at the sight of his bride.
The two embraced and admired one another and shed a tear or two as they took each other in. Gretl turned to show Carl the back of her dress, and he turned and gave me an approving “two thumbs up”. Needless to say, he loved it almost as much as he loves her.
The wedding ceremony was held in the lower ballroom of Evansville Country Club. Guests relaxed into their chairs as they enjoyed music played by the violinist. Gretl made her grand entrance into the ceremony to the tune of “Perfect” by Ed Sheeran. They may have already had their first look, but that didn’t stop Carl from tearing up when Gretl walked down the aisle.
One of my favorite parts of their entire day was listening to the vows that the two had written for each other. It was such a loving and personal touch to their ceremony, and you could tell that they truly meant every word they said. After saying their vows, the two took communion and then prayed together. They ended their ceremony with an epic first kiss as Carl oh-so-smoothly dipped Gretl across him. It couldn’t have been more perfect!
After their ceremony, guests enjoyed cocktail hour next door before heading back in for the reception to begin. The ballroom was beautifully decorated by Emerald Design with neutral flowers, greenery and candles. It was a perfectly classic look.
After the toasts and dinner, I stole the new Mr. and Mrs. Kay away for a few minutes for some photos outside. What we had originally slated on the timeline as “sunset photos” turned into “umbrella photos in the rain”, but Carl and Gretl were such good sports and didn’t even bat an eye about standing in the rain on their wedding day.
They ended their wedding celebration by mingling with guests and dancing the night away. Carl and Gretl, I am endlessly grateful that you chose me to document this special day in your lives. You both are such incredible people, and getting to know you has been a true blessing. I wish you all the best in your married life together! You have a bright future ahead!
