It seems like it was just yesterday that I was meeting with Scott and Brie for their maternity photos, and now that sweet little babe has already made his entrance into the world! Rhett Presley Elmendorf made his grand entrance into the world on April 14 and changed his mom and dad’s lives for the better.

First Time Parents

Having your first child can absolutely turn your world upside down. I know this from firsthand experience, after all. Between the sleep loss, the diaper explosions and the general sense that you have no idea what has happened to your life, it can feel like you’ve just moved into an alternate universe.

These two, though? They were probably the least frazzled and most calm first time parents I’ve ever seen. Sweet baby Rhett was just perfect and slept almost the entire time, and Scott and Brie snuggled up to him like they’d been doing this parenting thing their whole lives. That parental instinct that kicks in after you have a baby is real, you guys, and these two are living proof.

There are no less than a million reasons why I love lifestyle newborn photography, but being able to capture the authenticity of the relationship that is blossoming between the parents and the child tops the list. When I look at these pictures of Rhett with his mom and dad during the first few days of his life, I think about how precious these memories will be for him to look back on. I think about how meaningful it is to have these photos documented in the very first place Rhett called home – the place where his mom and dad started to grow their family.

And more than that, I think about how valuable this documentation of life will be for Rhett’s babies to look back on someday. Many times we think of the here and now and don’t think about how what we do will impact the generations to come. But the thought of Scott and Brie’s grandchildren one day flipping through these photos and feeling the connection between their daddy and their grandparents makes my heart swell.
