Apex Newborn Photos

These Apex newborn photos were about as close to perfection as you can get. Since I obviously was the photographer, you might think I’m bragging on myself here, but I’m totally not. I’m bragging on my clients!

So what made this newborn session so great? There were a few key things that played into it.

Wardrobe Choices for a Newborn Session

First, their wardrobe choices were on point. While most new moms will opt for a more subtle maxi dress, Carter wore a dress that incorporated some vibrant blues and greens. And wow! It photographed so beautifully, especially on film.

Most of the decor in their home was fairly neutral, so I loved that her dress added the perfect pop of color to their newborn photos.

And then Clark’s newborn outfit was actual perfection. So much so that I’ve added it to my client closet for all newborn babies to use for their photos! It was cream with the most beautiful chunky texture and showed off his little hands and feet.

His outfit was a wonderful balance of simplicity, personality and texture in my opinion. One thing I always suggest steering clear of for newborns (and all babies) are outfits with too much fabric or too much going on.

Newborns especially are so tiny. When you put them in something with too much fabric, the outfit swallows them, and it can end up looking bulky.

Less is always more – especially for babies!

Great Natural Light

The second thing that played into these successful Apex newborn photos was the ample natural light beaming through their windows.

Clark’s nursery happened to have good light, so we started in his room. We then moved into an open area in their second floor that wasn’t necessarily a conventional place for photos. But the light was so good I couldn’t pass it up!

No matter how much natural light your home has, though, I can always make an in-home newborn session work. Quite literally all I need is one window, and I’m pretty sure all homes have those these days!

And the more windows with good light coming through, the more freedom and flexibility we have during your session!

Clearing the clutter for an in-home session

The final reason this session was so great was because their home was entirely clutter free in the rooms we used! I wasn’t limited in the angles I was shooting from, because there was no clutter to be found anywhere.

I’m not sure if they hid it all (which is what I suggest), or if they simply live with minimal clutter. Either way, it made my job easy!

As a professional newborn photographer, I can make magic out of almost any situation or home I’m given. But it also helps immensely when you’re given circumstances like this to work with!
