Hi I’m Morgan! I’m a photography educator and Raleigh, NC newborn photographer and family photographer.

Meet Morgan

Babymoons can come across as a little over the top, don’t you think? I mean, let’s be honest. It’s a made up thing. Our parents didn’t take babymoons when they were pregnant with us, right?

Somewhere in between the time that we were born and we decided to start bearing children of our own, babymoons came into existence. And I have to be honest with you. I don’t hate them. I don’t hate them at all actually.

Justin and I jetted off to St. Maarten for a few days when I was pregnant with Beckett, and then we made a trip to Savannah (without Beckett) when I was pregnant with Callahan. So yeah, we’re totally all about cashing in on the babymoon excuse. And yes, maybe it doesn’t seem like anything more than a good excuse for a vacation, but I actually think there are a few good reasons to take a babymoon.

4 Reasons You Should Take a Babymoon

This will be your last child-free vacation for a while.

If you think you have a lot to pack now just wait until you have to pack an extra suitcase for all of your child’s belongings. Babies may be small, but they come with a lot of baggage. And besides all of the things you have to pack for them, vacations with kiddos are different. They’re still fun, but I certainly wouldn’t classify them under “relaxing”. Mostly because they’re not. Believe me when I say there will be no need for you to pack that book you’ve been wanting to read. Vacations with kids involve very little relaxation and a whole lot of child chasing.

Do it for the relaxation

Speaking of relaxation, pregnancy in and of itself can be a stressor. From morning sickness to choosing the right stroller (why does this have to be so hard?!) to the uncertainty of what your future will be like, there’s plenty to keep you up at night. And let me tell you sister, if you think you’re stressed now, just wait until there’s a tiny human whose life depends on you. That’s when the real fun begins. 😉 So do yourself a favor and set aside this time on your babymoon to relax. It gives you a chance to stop thinking about which crib mattress to buy and just zone out for a few days. You’ll thank yourself later.

Life is about to change

Life as you know it in this moment will never be the same again. It’s not something you can fully comprehend until you’re living it, but take my word for it. Your world is going to look much different with a baby in it. So go make some really amazing memories for this season of your life. Believe me, they’ll be nice to look back on while you’re rocking your little one to sleep again at 3 AM.

Strengthen the bond with your partner

Having a baby is going to rock your world – both in good ways and unexpected ways. It’s going to change your relationship with your partner, and hopefully that change is for the better. One way to up the odds of that is to ensure that your bond is solid before welcoming your son or daughter into the world. Happy families grow from happy marriages. So if you’re not going to take a babymoon for yourself, do it for your baby. Taking a few days away from work and the stressors of everyday life to reconnect and just have fun will only do you favors.

I totally get it if an elaborate vacation isn’t high on your priority list right now. I mean, babies are expensive, right?! But make it a point to set aside at least a night or two for you and your partner to escape from the realities of everyday life and focus on one another. It can be as simple as a short weekend trip or an overnight staycation or as luxurious as an extended trip overseas. Whatever it is for you, mark it on your calendar and make it happen.
