Feeling that deep conviction to do the things we do makes us do them differently. It gives us more purpose, a strongly-rooted reason to push forward and become better. Understanding the “why” behind what we choose to do with our lives can change the course of everything. It gives us a filter to run everything in our businesses through. It’s an essential part in building the foundation for a business. If you don’t know why you’re doing what you’re doing, the likelihood that you’ll stray off course is much higher.

All that being said, why is it that I do what I do? Why does my heart overflow when I have the privilege of capturing a couple in love? Why am I, at times, brought to joy-filled tears because of a wedding photograph? Why am I so passionate about authentically documenting a couple’s wedding day? This, my friends, is why.

I grew up in a loving home. It was apparent to me from a young age that my parents not only loved my siblings and me, but they also loved each other. They weren’t overly lovey dovey on one another or anything, but there was an unspoken respect that existed between them. They worked hard in their respective ways to ensure that my brother, sister and I were happy and well taken care of.

It didn’t occur to me until later in life, but this love and happiness that I was so fortunate to feel growing up can be attributed to their marriage. A happy family doesn’t stem from two people who don’t share a good marriage. The roots of a family have to grow deep into the ground first. They have to be strong enough to withstand the trials and tribulations that life will undoubtedly throw at them.

This has given me such a deep appreciation for marriage. I’ve seen what the product of a loving marriage is. I’ve experienced how it can positively impact the lives of those closest to it. I know how important it is.

No one knows what exactly their future holds when they say their vows on their wedding day. What they do know is that they love one another in their own special ways. They know that their love is one of a kind; it’s unique. And that love is going to lay the foundation for their family – for their children, for their grandchildren, and so on and so forth.

This kind of love is one that deserves to be captured in the most authentic and real way possible on day one. So that as circumstances change and their family grows, they can look back at those photos and remember that one-of-a-kind love that they share. They can stand firm in it. They can show their children and grandchildren the foundation their family is built upon. They can remember that the love that they share matters and it’s worth choosing to pour themselves into every day.

Because it’s a love that not only affects them, it affects the generations to come. And that’s something to live for, it’s something to fight for and most importantly, it’s something to love for.
